Humility: True Greatness - C.J. Mahaney

How would you answer the question - Does the way you live your life draw God's gaze? God's eyes - as C.J. Mahaney points out - "are searching to and fro throughout the whole earth, to give strong support to those whose heart is blameless toward him." (2 Chron. 16:9). The thing that captures God's gaze - the attribute that draws His attention and gains His "strong support" is humility.
Mahaney does a masterful job of biblically defining humility and it's sinful counterpart, pride. The part of the book I found most helpful was the second section. So many times books inspire and motivate, but seldom give practical solutions and applications; Mahaney, however, does not disappoint. The second section of the book is filled with wonderful ideas on how to incorporate humility into your life on a daily basis. This book is easy to read and anyone familiar with Mahaney's speaking style can hear his voice reading this book as you read along.
From a worship leaders perspective - there are a few drums that need to be continually beat - and this is one of them. We are in the spotlight all the time receiving attention and praise from others. Our culture places musicians on a pedastal and our sinful desires play right into that. We need to gain understanding of our roles and our lives through God's perspective - not from the people we lead. We are servants not superstars! This book will help you in the battle to tear down the prideful towers we've created. I highly recommend this book!
